Stevie Ray’s “Sunday Jazz Club” in the Swan bar

Every Sunday from 4pm

Stevie Ray’s “Jazz Club” presents The Nick Etwell Trio, on Sunday afternoons at Swan.

“Etwell has a Blue Mitchell kind of lyricism to his playing that harks back to the dawn of Jazz” – Echoes Magazine

“Led with brassy authority by trumpeter Nick Etwell, this punchy band recalled the muscular funk of Jimmy Smith & Brother Jack McDuff and went down a treat! ” – London Evening Standard

Trumpeter and bandleader Nick Etwell has been performing professionally for over 30 years and in that time has worked with some of the biggest names in music. Although perhaps best known as front man to long standing soul jazz outfit The Filthy Six (Acid Jazz Records/Color Red), he has toured extensively across the globe backing up a varied and diverse range of artists including Tom Jones, Beck, Ronnie Spector, Mavis Staples, The Neville Brothers, Roger Daltrey, Madness, Duran Duran, Jill Scott, Noel Gallagher, Mumford & Sons and many more. The Trio comprises two fellow sidemen from The Filthy Six – Pete Whittaker on Organ (Jim Mullen, Art Themen, Dave O’Higgins) and Simon Lea on Drums (Dionne Warwick, Rod Stewart, Jamie Cullum) – with the group performing a mixture of jazz standards, soul jazz classics and original material, leaning towards the groovier side of things whenever possible.
